United States First Lady Melania Trump is not exactly known for sharing lengthy captions on her social media accounts. Her recent tweet regarding Martin Luther King Jr. Day, however, caught the attention of Late Show host Stephen Colbert.
In his opening monologue, Colbert went on to greet everyone a Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day. “A beautiful day to celebrate, a beautiful message to remember,” he said, before turning the attention on to the First Lady’s tweet that was to commemorate the holiday. Colbert recalled Melania’s “short and sweet” tweet, which said, “Together, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” and then he went on to comment on how she can really relate to the civil rights hero’s message, “especially the part about wanting to be free at last.”
Colbert also pointed out the graphic the First Lady shared in that same tweet to honor the late hero. “The oddest thing about that tweet was the graphic she used, which just said ‘MLK Day.’ Timely…and factual.” The late show host went in with another joke about what the First Lady may tweet about the next day, before zeroing in on another event that occurred during Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which was Donald Trump’s inauguration.
“I think we all remember where we were when we weren’t there,” Said Colbert before beginning the show.
Recently, in the midst of the currently ongoing Senate Impeachment trial, it also marked the 15th wedding anniversary of Melania and Donald. While the prosecution laid out their opening arguments urging the Republican Senators to agree to vote for impeachment, Donald had just arrived from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. To commemorate the occasion, the White House shared a photo of the couple on the official social media accounts. The photo is of Donald and Melania dancing with a band playing in the background. Based on the dress Melania is wearing, the photo of them might have been taken at the Congressional Ball.
Neither Donald nor Melania spoke about their wedding anniversary and no questions were entertained by the White House spokeswoman about how the couple spent their special day together.
