Michelle Obama recently responded to a 4-year-old girl who claimed that she felt ugly on social media.
The viral video shows Ariyonna and her stylist friend Shabria fixing the young girl’s hair. Ariyonna is looking at herself while the stylist was doing an Instagram Live when she suddenly blurted out that she felt ugly.
Shabria was surprised to hear what the young girl just said that she immediately corrected her. The stylist told Ariyonna that she’s very pretty because she’s got dimples and a nice personality.
At this point, the 4-year-old started crying and Shabria tried her best to comfort her. Shabria then went on to educate the young girl on what it really means to be beautiful.
Shortly after the clip was released online, Barack Obama’s wife and other celebrities showed their support for Ariyonna.
“Ariyonna, you are gorgeous. In a world that sometimes tries to say otherwise, I want to tell you – and every other beautiful, intelligent, brave black girl – just how precious you are,” the ex-FLOTUS wrote on Instagram.
“How to Get Away With Murder” star Davis also tried to uplift the 4-year-old by asking her followers to be more positive towards each other and themselves.
“We are fighting hundreds of years of brutal conditioning of being considered less than. It is sprinkled in our language, behavior, laws, music… etc… and trickles down to our youth. I’m speaking LIFE into Ariyonna. From a sista who looks a lot like you… you were born worthy therefore you were born beautiful!” she wrote.
“Orange Is The New Black” star Cox admitted that seeing Ariyonna’s video broke her heart. She also said that what Davis wrote overwhelmed her and made it difficult for her to express her feelings.
Shabria also encouraged her followers to uplift their queens. The stylist admitted that hearing Ariyonna’s statement about feeling ugly just broke her heart.
“She comes from a great home & loving mother. I just think when kids go to school they learn and pick up so many different things that they don’t know the definition but they know the feeling! Keep her in your prayers and keep lifting up our future!!!” she wrote.
